Stone Wall
Photo Album: Stone Wall |
A new stone wall is in the process of being built just up the street from my house. A man from Vestmanna is building it, and he has been working on it for several months. Today a dump truck was putting rocks between the wall and the hill behind it.
This afternoon I noticed some blue sky, so I quickly got out my camera. The pictures that look like sunset were taken at about 2:00 p.m.

This is a wonderful post. Thanks for taking the time to get all these photos! It looks like snow hasn’t been much of a problem yet, but do you know how much snow you can expect to get in the average winter? I know the Faroes are surrounded by the Gulf Stream, so I speculate that snowfall will be moderate. But the short light hours must be tricky to get used to.

How cool that you are living in the Faroes for a year. How did the summer course go? I took it last year with Hjamlar, who did you have? I was very upset about the class myself, because as a Faroese-American who has never been able to say diddly squat in faroese to her own grandmother except hi, how are you, and may I be excused from the table, I have made it my lifelong quest to learn the language. And I walked away knowing little more than when I came. My grandmother, who’s mentally drifting from us, no longer speaks any english, and has a terrible memory. I couldn’t even figure out how to explain to her that i was her granddaughter! After the course even! I hope they are getting better, because I think it will be a really positive thing if/when they do.
How are you getting by linguistically? Have you been picking lots of stuff up since the class?
Also, I am soooooo envious that you are living there for a year. How did you manage it? What kind of visa stuff did you have to do? I want so badly to go live there for a while, and have yet to find a way.
Take care & good luck with the rest of your stay!
